Academic & Competition Teams

Academic Team

Sponsor: Jill Daniel

The Academic Quiz Bowl Team is a competitive academic organization for selected students. Team members are chosen through preliminary testing and simulated competition tryouts held at the beginning of the school year. Students compete against other Fayette County schools throughout the year. Meetings are held after school.

Junior Beta Club

Sponsors: Lyn Hubbard, Gabrielle Humphrey, Tiffany O'Neil

The National Junior Beta Club is a premier educational youth organization for 6th through 8th-grade students. Focused on the four pillars of achievement, character, leadership, and service, it offers students opportunities to build peer connections, develop leadership skills, and earn honors for their community involvement.

Membership in the Junior Beta Club is by invitation only and requires a student to have semester averages of 90 or above in all classes, including Connections. Eligibility for membership is assessed at the end of each semester. Once inducted into Beta, students must maintain a 90 semester average. Math Team

Sponsor: Mark Sanders

The Math Team is a competitive organization for students recommended by their math teachers. Members compete against area middle schools at the annual Griffin RESA Middle School Math Competition, typically held in January or February.

Science Olympiad

Sponsor: Whitney Rider

Science Olympiad challenges students through competitions in chemistry, biology, engineering, earth science, forensics, technology, and more. Students work with event coaches weekly from October through March while preparing for regional competitions, with opportunities to advance to the state and national levels.

LEGO Robotics Team

Sponsors: Taran Swanson & Jamie Carson

A team of 10 students is selected each year to compete in the FIRST LEGO League. Team members design, build, and program robots while developing teamwork and problem-solving skills. Meetings are held after school and some mornings, with competitions taking place on Saturdays.

Book Club

Book Club meets monthly in the Media Center to discuss books and share a love of reading.

Chess Club

Sponsor: Christopher Harper

Open to students of all experience levels, Chess Club provides opportunities to learn the game, improve strategy, and compete in friendly matches.

Crochet Club

Sponsor: Meehan Murphy

Students of all skill levels are welcome to learn crochet, improve their techniques, socialize, and work on individual projects in a relaxed environment.

HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America)

Sponsors: Mandy Ridgeway & Meehan Murphy

HOSA is designed for students interested in healthcare careers. Members explore medical fields and prepare for future participation in the high school HOSA program.

Radio Club

Sponsor: Bob Didier

Radio Club members help manage WRSM 100.1 FM Panther Radio. Students research music, record announcements and Panther News, create playlists, and gain experience in broadcasting and audio production.

RSMS Panther News

Sponsor: Christopher Harper

Students produce the school's daily morning broadcast and other video projects. Auditions are held each January.

Leadership & Service

Junior Beta Club

Junior Beta Club recognizes students who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership, character, and service. Members participate in tutoring, school activities, and community service projects. Membership is by invitation and requires semester averages of 90 or higher in all classes, including Connections.

Student Council

Sponsor: Jennifer Doyal

Student Council consists of representatives from each grade level who provide student input on school initiatives and activities. Members are selected by their homeroom teachers.

Yearbook Staff

Sponsor: Kristen Brady

Yearbook Staff designs, photographs, advertises, sells, and publishes the annual school yearbook. Students are selected through a competitive application process and meet after school as needed.

Community & Student Life

Fellowship of Christian Students & Athletes (Cold Pizza)

Sponsor: Natalie Fields

Cold Pizza combines Fellowship of Christian Students (FCS) and Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). Open to all students regardless of religious affiliation, the group meets every Friday morning before school for food, fellowship, and inspirational guest speakers.

Friday Lunch Bunch

Sponsor: Sarah Maisey

Friday Lunch Bunch meets weekly in Room 805 to encourage friendships and interaction among students of all ability levels. Students participate through teacher recommendation.
