Participating in middle school athletics is a privilege that offers students valuable opportunities for personal growth and development.

Builds teamwork, leadership, and communication skills

For eligible 7th and 8th grade students, BMMS offers:

Football (August-October)
Volleyball (August-October)
Cheerleading (During the football and 8th grade basketball season)
8th Grade Basketball- Boys and Girls (October - December)
7th Grade Basketball- Boys and Girls (January - March)
Track and Field (February - March)

Eligibility

Athletics is for 7th and 8th grade students only.
Only students that meet academic eligibility as outlined below may participate.
Students must have a current physical on file before trying out for a team.

Please note: All Fayette County schools now use Rank One to manage physicals and all required permission forms. Please allow 24-48 hours for us to connect Rank One to your student's Infinite Campus account. Once complete, you can upload your student's physical and complete other forms. You can also create an account on Rank One's mobile app.

Middle School (7th & 8th Grades)

Students must pass all four academic subjects the semester preceding participation OR pass all academic subjects for the year.
A player must not reach their 15th birthday prior to May 1st preceding their 8th grade year. A player must not reach their 14th birthday prior to May 1st preceding their 7th grade year.
An eligible student can participate in each sport, once in the 7th grade and once in the 8th grade.
Students must adhere to all rules and regulations outlined in the FCBOE Secondary Code of Conduct and/or specific written guidelines developed by the coach and/or school administration.
8th graders will be eligible to participate in sub-varsity sports at the high school level if that sport is not available at the middle school level. They must meet middle school eligibility requirements.
The Fayette County Middle School Athletic League governs middle school athletics.

Athletic Participation Registration

Parents of students who are interested in participating in sports at Rising Starr Middle School or JV sports at Starr's Mill High School must complete the following steps:

Complete the Athletic Interest Survey in the Infinite Campus Parent Portal. (See Athletic Survey Directions.)
Wait 24–72 hours after submitting the survey.
Create a Rank One Parent Account by clicking the Rank One link.
You will use your student's last name and student ID number to:
- Complete required athletic forms (also available for download below)
- Upload the student’s current sports physical

Policies

Students attending games must be accompanied by an adult who remains with them throughout the game.
To help keep students, staff, and fans safe, only clear bags are permitted at Fayette County Public Schools athletic events. Read more information about the clear bag policy here.
- Clear totes, purses, backpacks, waist bags, and similar bags are permitted.
- Diaper bags and medically necessary items are permitted and subject to inspection.

Stadium Rules

Any bag brought to the stadium/venue must be CLEAR and subject to be searched.
No firearms or weapons are allowed on school property.
No tobacco, smoking or vaping devices are allowed on school property.
No alcohol is allowed on school property.
Behavior should meet the same expectations as inside a school building.

Students and fans are expected to behave in a respectful manner at all Fayette County Public School (FCPS) extracurricular events. A failure to comply with behavioral expectations will result in an ejection from the event, school disciplinary action for students, and the possibility of students or fans being banned from future FCPS extracurricular events. Fighting, argumentative behavior, or any actions creating a disturbance or unsafe environment will not be tolerated and would result in removal from the event. Charges from law enforcement may be taken when students or fans violate behavioral expectations.

Clear Bags Required

In the effort to expedite entry to any FCPS extracurricular event, we recommend that spectators do not bring a bag to the event. If a bag is necessary, the bag must meet the following criteria in order to the enter the stadium/venue:

Bags must be CLEAR plastic, vinyl or PVC. Bags cannot be tinted with color or include oversize content that prevents visibility into the clear bag. Exceptions will be made for medically necessary items and diaper bags for adults who have infants or toddlers, after proper inspection by security personnel. Any type of non-clear bag will not be permitted.

Students and fans with non-complying bags will need to store their items in their vehicle and return to the gate for entry.

Provide each student's name and grade level.

Print or save your enrollment confirmation for your records.
